* The title “Emmaus” is taken from the name of a village near
Jerusalem. On the first Easter Day, two of Jesus’ friends were walking
home unsure what to make of all that had happened during the previous few
days (Jesus’ crucifixion, followed by the rumours that he was alive).
Jesus came and walked with them, although they did not recognise him.
He explained things to them but did not force himself on them. They
invited him to stay the night and only recognised who he was when he broke
bread in thanksgiving before supper – and then disappeared. (You can
read the story in Luke
24: 13-35). We find this story encouraging as we journey through
life, trying to make sense of it and not always recognising Jesus alongside
us.
Based on the book, 'Streams of Living Water', by Richard
J Foster
