The Emmaus course

This ten-session course provides a straightforward introduction to Christian faith and is ideal for:

  • People who feel they have only limited knowledge
  • People exploring baptism or confirmation
  • People with longer experience of faith who would like a ‘refresher’.

The format centres around informal discussion with no expectations or holds barred.  Come with your own experience, questions and doubts. Share as much or as little as you wish in a confidential environment.

Comments from previous course members

“We had a lively, honest discussion every session”
“The leaders were extremely helpful and allowed me to talk and question what they were saying too.”
“Never did I feel pressured to say or answer anything I didn't want to”
“It has given me the strength to question what I believe”
“I wanted some questions answered about my own faith and the feelings I had about my Christianity”
“I was anxious prior to the start of the course However, on the very first session I knew I need not have worried, as it became clear that there were in fact no expectations of us.”
“Emmaus is a well planned course with knowledgeable leaders”

If you want to know more or would like to sign up for the next Course, please contact the Parish Office.

The title 'Emmaus' is taken from the name of a village near Jerusalem.  On the first Easter Day, two of Jesus’ friends were walking home unsure what to make of all that had happened during the previous few days (Jesus’ crucifixion, followed by the rumours that he was alive).  Jesus came and walked with them, although they did not recognise him.  He explained things to them but did not force himself on them.  They invited him to stay the night and only recognised who he was when he broke bread in thanksgiving before supper – and then disappeared.  (You can read the story in Luke 24: 13-35).  We find this story encouraging as we journey through life, trying to make sense of it and not always recognising Jesus alongside
